Show Notes

Why is transforming the perception of sales and salespeople so important? How can authentic persuasion help address misconceptions about salespeople?

Sales shouldn't just be something people do; it should be treated as a profession with a duty and responsibility to follow. By encouraging and enabling authentic persuasion, we can shift the way the world views salespeople.

This episode is an excerpt from one of my training sessions where I talk about effective empathy.

Join me in transforming the way the world sees sales. Be a part of the movement to redefine sales and elevate the role of sales professionals.

One of the big things that happened this week, that's very exciting. And I want to share this because it fits into the mission, which I always start out these episodes with and explaining my mission, which I guess maybe I should start with that. Um, which is. My focus is to help facilitate transformation in three ways or three through, through three things, which is to encourage and enable light bulb moments in people to help the underdog win their game. And then also to leave people better than I found them. Those I consider my day and my time a success when I do one or any of those throughout my day. Yesterday I had a great opportunity for the second time ever and it gives me so much hope and I'm super excited and this is why it fits in with mission. I was given the opportunity for the second time this year to be a guest lecturer at Oregon State University's professional sales class taught by the amazing Caitlin Gill. Uh, and it's a group of students enrolled in Oregon State University where they're there. Some are marketing majors, some are MBA majors, some are actually in a sales major type program, and they're there to learn about how to sell and be a professional and be effective. And it's amazing. When I was going to college. Every other business unit had degrees available other than sales right sales is not something people get degrees and it's just something they do so marketing has a degree accounting, all these other things, except for sales and it's amazing to see it and I love. Being able to be there and share what I've learned, uh, through the ups and downs and everything that I've seen and the challenges that I've had, I've had. And then what I've seen other people go through, uh, people who have entered into sales who are successful people who entered and then left. So it was great to do that. Uh, if you have any opportunities to support any programs like that, I recommend it. Um, and it was just good. They asked a lot of great questions. Um, they really wanted to learn. And I think if we can help. Impact the future salespeople, that people are going to go out there and if we can get more and more people, which is why I do this show, this program and everything I do, get people to treat it like a profession and treat it like something where they have a duty and responsibility to follow some kind of oath and code of ethics. Then we can change the way the world sees salespeople, because right now, let's be honest, most people see sales as a dirty word. Most people would never want to go into sales because they think what it takes to be successful. Which is gross and slimy, which is not the case. It doesn't have to be that way. It's just what people do. Um, and then also they don't like what happens to them when they interact with a salesperson. So that's why I do this. That's why I want to change it. That's why my goal is to encourage and enable over a million authentic persuaders in the world, because then that will have a ripple effect where we change the way people view salespeople and how salespeople view themselves and what they think their role is.
